Here are some things clients really don’t need to apologize to their house cleaner for:
1. “Sorry it’s messy.”
That’s literally the job. Cleaners expect a lived-in space - not perfection.
2. Normal clutter (toys, dishes, laundry).
Life happens. As long as it’s not hazardous, it’s part of what we work around every day. I, personally, also do not mind cleaning some of this stuff up. Each of my jobs are custom tailored to each clients needs. You need help with that? I got chu.
3. Being busy or not “ready” for the cleaning.
You don’t need to deep-clean before the cleaner arrives. That defeats the purpose.
4. Pet hair or having pets.
Most cleaners already assume there will be fur, paw prints, or the occasional curious pet following them around. Can I pet them? Yes? Then, we’re good.
5. Last-minute bookings or rescheduling (within reason).
Schedules change - just communicate clearly and respectfully. I will always do what I can.
6. Asking for specific priorities.
That’s actually helpful. If you need extra focus on bathrooms or floors, just say so. I appreciate that clear communication on what you want so I can do a job that you are completely pleased with.
7. Your home not looking like social media.
Real homes are lived in. No one expects a magazine spread. That is not normal.
8. Taking time for yourself while I clean.
You don’t have to entertain or hover. In fact, I prefer you don’t. Relax, work, leave - whatever works for you.
9. “Embarrassing” areas like baseboards, vents, or behind appliances.
Cleaners have seen it all. Nothing about dust or buildup is shocking.
10. Wanting to hire help in the first place.
Getting a cleaner isn’t a luxury reserved for perfection - it’s a practical way to reclaim time and reduce stress. I am happy to serve you.
If anything, the only thing cleaners do appreciate is clear communication, reasonable expectations, and timely payment. Everything else? No apology needed. 🍋
