🧽 CLEANING vs. SANITIZING vs. DISINFECTING 🦠

Did you know they’re not the same?

✨ Cleaning: Removes dirt and grime.
✨ Sanitizing: Reduces germs to safer levels.
✨ Disinfecting: Kills specific germs on surfaces.

💡 Pro Tip: Clean first, then disinfect when needed! And never mix cleaning chemicals.

🧴 Common sanitizers and disinfectants:

•Hydrogen peroxide — Used in certain EPA-registered products to disinfect hard surfaces.

•Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) — Effective against many germs when properly diluted and used according to the label.

•Quaternary ammonium compounds (Quats) — Common in commercial disinfectants for floors, bathrooms and other hard surfaces.

•Alcohol (70% isopropyl or ethyl alcohol) — Used on certain small surfaces and equipment compatible with alcohol.

•Citric acid — Found in some EPA-registered disinfectants; effectiveness depends on the specific formula.

•Food-contact sanitizers — Often use quats, chlorine or peracetic acid, depending on the product and application.

🦩 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🦩

When’s the last time you replaced your kitchen sponge or washcloth? 👀

Those things can harbor thousands of bacteria, especially when they stay damp and collect food particles. And rinsing them out doesn’t necessarily mean they’re clean!

🧽 The takeaway? Replace your sponges regularly, wash your dishcloths frequently, and let them dry between uses.

Because sometimes the dirtiest thing in your kitchen is the thing you use to clean it! 😂
