Winter Weather & Bat Populations

Winter weather brings big changes for bats! ❄️ Most bats hibernate during colder months, slowing their metabolism to conserve energy while food sources are scarce. Snow-covered landscapes can make survival even tougher, as insects aren’t available. This is why protecting hibernation roosts is so important to bat conservation!

In our last post, we shared what bat specialists do during the off-season, but did you know homeowners can take preventative steps during this time too? 🏠🦇

While bats are hibernating, it’s the perfect time to:
1️⃣ Inspect your home: Look for potential entry points like gaps in siding, rooflines, or vents.
2️⃣ Seal small openings: Use caulk or weatherstripping to close up any cracks or crevices.
3️⃣ Install chimney caps and vent covers: These prevent bats and other wildlife from entering your home.
4️⃣ Check attic insulation: Ensure it's intact and doesn’t have signs of wildlife damage.

Taking these proactive measures now can help prevent bats from moving in next season. Need expert advice? Reach out to us for a professional home assessment!

Our Story

While we at Get Bats Out highly respect bats and all they do for the environment, we understand that bats and humans are not meant to cohabit the same building or home. Bats do eat 1000′s of mosquitoes each night, but in your home they bring the risk of rabies, Histoplasmosis, Property Damage, and Bat Bugs (often mistaken for bed bugs). In a commercial setting, you can add liability, loss of customers, and depreciation. We remove live bats from all types of commercial and residential buildings. We do not harm the bats – we perform an “exclusion” followed by a “bat proofing”. When needed we also perform Histoplasmosis remediation and guano clean up.
