The Importance of Proper Circulation

Most people look at a green pool and immediately think it’s a chemical issue.

A lot of times, it’s actually a circulation issue.

These photos were taken in roughly 10-minute increments after I made adjustments at the equipment pad and redirected the return jets downward into the lower water column.

This pool was only pulling water from the skimmers and returning 100% of the filtered and chlorinated water back to the spa. That meant circulation was only happening at the surface and primarily in one area near the waterfall.

By balancing suction between the skimmers and main drains, and properly directing the return flow deeper into the pool, I immediately started improving circulation throughout the entire body of water.

Proper circulation matters because chemicals can only work effectively where the water is actually moving.

When circulation is poor, you end up with:
• dead spots
• uneven sanitizer distribution
• algae growth
• cloudy water
• inefficient filtration

Sometimes the solution isn’t adding more chemicals.
It’s making sure the water is moving the way it’s supposed to.
