One of the questions we get all the time is, "What's that access port on the side of the exhaust fan for?"
It's there so we can properly clean and inspect the fan blades. Without it, we cannot do a thorough job or make sure the fan stays properly balanced after cleaning.
That's why NFPA 96 Fire Code (Section 8.1.6.3.1) requires an access opening in the fan bowl. It's a small feature that makes a big difference in keeping your kitchen exhaust system clean, safe, and up to code.
