We will be experiencing freezing weather in the next few days. Here are a few things to remember:
1. The septic system sprinklers heads could freeze and keep your system from emptying. If your alarm comes on
this is the most likely cause. The pump is most likely still working, so to lower the water level in your pump tank you
can unscrew the first sprinkler head and let it drain out there or you can pour room-temperature water over the first
head until it starts spraying.
2. The power could go out. If your power is out the aerobic septic system cannot work and there is nothing that can
be done about that until the power comes back on. You can take off the cap of the first clean-out (a 3 to 4 inch white
pipe sticking up out of the ground between your house and the septic tank). The refuse will come out that pipe into
the yard. Once the power comes back on, your alarm is likely to come on as well. If the sprinklers are spraying
give it some time to see if the alarm turns back off.

It seems our website went down early yesterday evening due to issues of the provider. The real problem is that our emails were not working and we didn’t realize it until this morning. That was some hum-dinger of a storm last night! Don’t forget that once your power comes on your alarm probably will too. If the heads are spraying give it some time to see if the high water is the only problem. Most likely it just needs to eliminate all the extra water it got last night.
