The Short-head Gartersnake is one of three gartersnakes calling Pennsylvania home.

It is also a Species of Special Concern given that over 90% of the populations of this species occur in the Commonwealth.

🐍Adults can range in length from 14 to 18 inches.
🐍The head and neck are the same diameter making it difficult to distinguish where the neck ends and head begins.
🐍They have a well-defined light brown or tan stripe down the middle of their backs and along each side.
🐍They prefer fields, meadows and pastures. They generally avoid woodlands.
