Researchers from Texas A&M, the University of Florida, and the Texas Department of State Health Services say that now is the time to recognize Chagas disease as endemic in the U.S.

Chagas disease is a tropical illness caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, most commonly spread by “kissing bugs." Chagas disease — which develops in humans and dogs — often goes unnoticed in early stages, but a chronic infection can lead to serious heart and digestive system problems.
