WE DONāT MISS! šØ Welding out steel flat bar instead of thin, poor quality paint coated edging from the big box store is always the move. Itās extremely strong to deflect lawnmower bumps and kicks, decay from underground soil moisture, it beautifully patinaās overtime, and steps up the visual šÆ%.
In this example for edging to retain shadow rock around our concrete pavers - we are using 8ā x 20ā x 1/8ā thick steel āflat barā, WELDED to 18ā long tightly spaced steel reinforcements (rebar) that are anchored into rock or cement. This is a very robust design thatās built for the long haul. It gives a very sleek, upscale modern design element unlike thin off the shelf edging thatās prone to rusting out quickly and flaking off the unattractive green and brown paint.
Although itās an additional run to the metal store with a trailer, pulling out the welder and taking a good bit of more time to layout - no matter the size of job we do, we use it to do it right.
Besides being used for edging to retain decorative rock or separate the yard from mulch, itās a great material for planter boxes, modern stairs, cool privacy walls and other design elements.
