What is a pool owner going to do with all the rain we're getting every day?
I would test the pool water and probably need to add chlorine to keep the level above 3PPM during this really wet weather. You may also need to check your pH (maintain it between 7.2 and 7.8). Why would you have Swimmer Bugs in your pool? The reason is you have algae that they're eating. The algae are probably too small to see at this point. How to get rid of the Swimmer Bugs? Get rid of the algae. Your chlorine level is probably extremely low or zero. Bring us a water sample so we can help you with your pool chemistry, to get rid of the bugs quickly.

The secret to shocking a chlorine or saltwater swimming pool. Shocking the pool is the act of adding enough chlorine to the pool to quickly exceed the chlorine demand. When the demand is exceeded, the residual free chlorine reading that appears on the test strip becomes deep-purple. This indicates that the water was, in fact, shocked when the abundance of chlorine was added to the pool water. This excess abundance of chlorine is ready to address any new chlorine demand and keep the pool sanitized and free of algae. THE SECRET TO SHOCKING YOUR POOL IS TO TEST YOUR CHLORINE LEVEL ONE HOUR AFTER YOUR ATTEMPT TO SHOCK YOUR POOL. IF YOUR DOSE WAS NOT LARGE ENOUGH YOU'LL NEED TO RE-DOSE WITH CHLORINE, WAIT ANOTHER HOUR THEN RE-TEST. CONTINUE DOSING, WAITING, RE-TESTING, UNTIL YOUR FREE CHLORINE TEST READING IS OVER 10ppm OF FREE CHLORINE. Our business hours during Swimming Pool Season include Saturday mornings 9:00AM to 12:00 Noon, April to August. Monday-Friday hours are 9:00AM to 5:00PM.

Carl has a reputation for helping with most swimming pool issues.
Please bring a current water sample if you have pool water problems or questions. Run the pool pump at least one hour before taking the pool water sample.

Remember to Run your Pool Pump if it may freeze. This may prevent it from freezing. If you can't run it you ma;y wish to isolate the pump and remove the drain plugs to completely empty the pump. Place the plugs in the pump basket to prevent losing them.

Are you and your swimming pool recovering from a “Hurricane”?

Remove all debris from your pool as soon as possible! Leaves and other organic things will quickly deplete pool water sanitizers.
If your pump stopped working you can preserve a healthy pool by dissolving granular chlorine in water and pouring that solution into your pool especially in all corners. If your pool has a vinyl liner, avoid allowing solid undissolved chlorine from touching the vinyl liner. Solid chlorine will bleach the liner wherever it touches. Test the water daily, and an hour after adding chlorine. You will want to monitor it and always keep it at or above 3-PPM free chlorine.
