1. I don’t use drive-thru car washes — those brushes/cloths are covered in grit from every car before yours and will haze/scratch clear coat over time. Hand wash or touchless only.

2. I skip the “tire shine everywhere” habit — high-gloss dressings sling onto paint and rocker panels at highway speed and attract dirt fast. I use a matte/satin dressing or none at all on my own car.

3. I don’t top off wax/sealant over dirty paint — most people spray wax on top of grime to save time. I always do a proper wash + decon (clay or chemical) first, because sealing in contaminants traps them against the clear coat.

4. I’m paranoid about wipe direction and towel contamination — one drop of grit dragged across paint causes swirls. I use separate towels for wheels vs. paint vs. glass, always, even on my own daily driver.

5. I don’t ignore the small stuff — door jambs, engine bay, interior vents. Most owners only care about what’s visible. I detail the parts nobody sees because that’s what actually protects resale value and keeps things running clean long-term.
