Today, Joe the Plumber joins our city and our nation in remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11. We honor the first responders, tradesmen, and everyday New Yorkers who ran toward danger and helped us move forward in the years that followed. We stand with the families and survivors who carry the weight of that day with them. New York will never forget. Neither will we. 🇺🇸
Seeing the Twin Towers return to the skyline on September 9th through 2,977 lights over the harbor was a moment of deep reflection. This wasn’t just a display; it was a true act of remembrance, shaped by the voices of those who know this loss best. The project was guided by a dedicated group, including FDNY first responder and artist Brenda Berkman; Tim Brown, who served on the front lines at both the 1993 and 2001 attacks; Terry Strada, who lost her husband Tom and serves as President of 9/11 Families United; Jim Smith, who lost his wife, NYPD Officer Moira Smith; and Genevieve Siller, daughter of fallen FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller. Presented as a free community gathering and sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts, it was a powerful way for us to come together to honor those we lost. 🇺🇸
25 years. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
