Do you need air sealing before adding insulation?

In many homes, yes. Insulation slows heat transfer, but air sealing stops warm or cool air from escaping through gaps, wiring penetrations, and small openings in the attic floor. If those leaks aren’t sealed first, insulation alone won’t perform the way it should.

That’s why a proper attic upgrade often starts with identifying and sealing those air leaks before new insulation goes in.
