Good evening, my fellow neighbors!!!
There is something that comes across in conversation a lot; "....my grandfather clock was working just fine for 30 years with nothing done to it, and now it's stopped."
Just like anything else mechanical, like a car, they require regular servicing over the years for optimal performance. Without it, things can break down and cause even more costly repairs in the future. Grandfather clocks, or any type of mechanically driven clocks (keywound, cable, or chain driven), are NO exception.
Some clocks will run for years without intervention, and all of a sudden, just seize out. It unfortunately happens more often than not. This is because it was never serviced, or at least done properly, and the clocks mechanism can no longer run due to too many shifts in gear positions, pivot hole damages, and cams and levers going off adjustment not allowing the clock to flawlessly run like smooth and effortless clockwork.
So my question for everyone; has your clock been serviced? Ever? Even if it's been 10 years or even 20, and it's still running, it's important you keep your clocks regularly serviced for years and years of enjoyment. Another warning sign your clock may need servicing is if it's lost or gained too much time over the years, no matter how much adjustment has been done.
