Warmer weather means more time outside — but it also means pest activity is ramping up around patios, decks, fire pits, and outdoor living spaces. 🦟🐜

Now’s a great time to prep your yard before mosquitoes, ants, ticks, and stinging insects fully settle in for the season. 🏡

⚠ A few simple steps can help:
• Add pest-deterrent plants like lavender, citronella, or marigolds around patios and seating areas
• Eliminate standing water from pots, toys, and furniture covers
• Trim back overgrown shrubs and vegetation
• Check decks, railings, and eaves for wasp activity
• Keep outdoor dining areas clean of food and drink residue

A little prevention now can make a big difference in how enjoyable your outdoor spaces are all summer long.

🦟 Mosquito activity is definitely picking up across New Hampshire and Massachusetts after the recent stretch of rain and warmer evenings.

⚠️ Keep in mind: mosquitoes don’t need much water to breed. Clogged gutters, flower pots, kids’ toys, tarps, and even small puddles can quickly become breeding spots this time of year.

A few easy ways to help reduce activity around your yard:
• Dump standing water regularly
• Keep gutters flowing properly
• Trim back overgrown shrubs and shaded areas
• Change birdbath water often

Mosquitoes are most active around dawn and dusk, so that’s when bites tend to ramp up.

Enjoy the weather — just don’t forget the bug spray if you’re outside in the evenings. 🦟

Windows open, warmer weather, and more time spent cooking at home… spring is the perfect season for flies to sneak inside. 🪰

Fruit flies, house flies, and drain flies are all attracted to moisture, food residue, trash bins, overripe fruit, and even small spills that are easy to overlook this time of year.

A few simple ways to help keep them out:
✔ Wipe down counters regularly
✔ Empty trash frequently
✔ Rinse recyclables before tossing
✔ Clean sink drains and garbage disposals
✔ Don’t leave pet food sitting out too long

If flies are becoming more than just an occasional annoyance, there may be a larger breeding source nearby. That’s where we can help.

Most homeowners know carpenter ants and termites are both bad news for wood… but they’re often mistaken for each other. 🐜

Here’s a quick way to tell the difference:

🔍 Carpenter Ants
• Larger, dark-colored ants
• Narrow “pinched” waist
• Bent antennae
• Hollow out wood to build nests

🔍 Termites
• Light-colored, soft bodies
• Straight waist
• Straight antennae
• Actually eat the wood they infest

Both can cause serious damage if ignored — especially this time of year as activity ramps up across New England.

If you’re seeing large ants indoors, piles of sawdust-like material, or winged insects around windows, it may be time for a professional inspection.

Mulch looks great—but how you use it can make a big difference in pest activity around your home here in New England. 🏠

With our damp springs and humid summers, mulch holds moisture… and that’s exactly what pests like ants, earwigs, and even termites are drawn to. 🐜

A few things to keep in mind 👇
• Keep mulch pulled back 2–3 inches from siding – direct contact creates a hidden highway for pests
• Watch the depth – more than ~2–3 inches traps moisture and becomes a nesting zone
• Be mindful of wood-based mulch – it can attract carpenter ants and other wood-destroying insects
• Improve drainage – soggy beds = higher pest pressure, especially in shaded areas

A clean mulch line might seem like a small detail, but it goes a long way in keeping pests from turning your landscaping into their home base.

If your yard is already set up this way, great 👍
If not, it’s an easy adjustment that can make a noticeable difference.

You don’t need peak summer heat to start seeing mosquitoes… just a little standing water and some warmer temps.

This time of year is when populations begin to build, and small problem areas around your yard can turn into breeding grounds faster than most homeowners realize.

A few things to keep an eye on right now:
• Buckets, toys, or tarps collecting water
• Clogged gutters from spring debris
• Low spots in the yard that stay wet
• Bird baths or planters that aren’t refreshed regularly
• Pool covers holding water

Mosquitoes only need a small amount of standing water to lay eggs—and those eggs can hatch in just a few days.

The good news? Catching these early can make a big difference in how your yard feels later this season.

If you’re already on a mosquito program, you’re ahead of the game 👍
If not, now’s the time to get in front of it before activity really ramps up.
