✨ Is your "silk" rug really silk?
Art silk, bamboo silk, and banana silk sound luxurious, but they are all viscose, a plant-based fiber that shines like silk and behaves nothing like it. The difference matters most on cleaning day, because viscose is much weaker when wet and can be damaged by cleaning that silk or wool would handle fine.
Here is how to start telling them apart:
✔️ Read the tag: viscose, rayon, bamboo silk, or art silk all mean not silk
✔️ Think about the price: a bargain "silk" rug is very likely viscose
✔️ Feel the pile: real silk feels fine and dry and warms as you rub it, viscose feels cool and slick
The full guide covers the burn test (one loose strand, over a sink, never the rug itself), its limits, and why a silk-look rug should never be steam cleaned or shampooed at home.
