Running a business is not for the weak.
People see the finished product, the growth, and the success. What they don’t see are the sleepless nights, the stress, the tears, the constant problem-solving, and the weight of being responsible for everyone else’s paycheck.
One of the hardest parts of owning a business isn’t the work, it’s managing people. You can give chance after chance, show grace when it isn’t deserved, be understanding when others wouldn’t be, and still end up being painted as the bad guy when accountability is expected.
Some employees want flexibility without responsibility, excuses without consequences, and understanding without effort. When their lack of work ethic catches up to them, somehow you’re the problem for addressing it.
I’ve learned the hard way that being kind doesn’t always mean people will appreciate it. Sometimes it just means they’ll take advantage of it. And when you finally draw a line and make a tough decision, you’re suddenly the worst person in the world.
I’m far from perfect, and I’ve made mistakes along the way. But I care deeply about my team, my clients, and the business I’ve worked so hard to build. Every difficult decision comes with stress, second-guessing, and more emotion than most people will ever know.
To every business owner carrying burdens no one sees: keep going. The people who understand what it takes know that leadership isn’t about being liked. It’s about doing what’s necessary, even when it’s hard. If I stopped caring about how I ran my business I would not have it…
