This is an entry-level Technician trainee position for maintenance on sewage Lift Stations. Experienced lift station field technicians can also apply. Potential employees are trained by assisting an experienced Lift Station Technician. Work is issued from the business owner day-to-day, and work assignments and performance are monitored from an experienced Lift Station Technician. Overall work planning, control, and evaluation of job performance are the responsibility of the business owner.
Technician Trainees perform semi-skilled and skilled work of average and standard difficulty in the installation, maintenance and repair of lift station mechanical equipment and property.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assists in performing daily inspections, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of lift stations, sewage grit removal equipment, sewage grinding equipment, sewage screening equipment, including pulling and replacing pumps, repairing and replacing pipe, valves, and fittings and the operation and maintenance of lift stations and the associated properties.
• Assists in performing basic troubleshooting of pumps treatment/process equipment at a lift station to identify and correct the problem.
• Keeps assigned Lift Station Technician informed of needed repairs and maintenance.
• Connects and operates portable pumps and generators.
• Maintains lift station properties with lawn maintenance equipment
• Cleans sewage spills and applies chemicals as required per federal, state, and local laws to sewage spills.
• Responds to emergency and trouble calls, locates and identifies the cause and performs corrective actions as required.
• Completes all assigned duties in an efficient and timely manner.
• Operates light and heavy duty trucks, boom trucks, heavy lifting equipment, and portable pumping equipment. Operates power generation equipment, lawn maintenance equipment and various tools as required.
• Maintains and is responsible for his/her assigned equipment and tools to be kept in proper working order at all times
• May independently perform maintenance and repair work of a routine nature.
• Ensures that frequently used parts and supplies are stocked on his/her assigned truck so that all parts needed for any given assignment are available and restocked as used
• Works days, evenings, nights, weekends, and weather events as scheduled or needed.
• Performs the lift station lead Technician duties on a temporary basis as assigned.
• All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent is a plus. Vocational or technical training is desirable.
• One year of experience working in a mechanical field, preferably in the wastewater industry desirable.
• The Lift Station Technician Trainee is required to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends, and in any emergency weather event occurring during his/her shift schedule or as needed.
• A good attendance record is vital in this position. Attendance records will be a contributing factor for selection.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to work in unpleasant conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in sewers and lift station wet wells, contact with raw sewage and associated fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Supplemental Information:
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
• Portable pumps, portable generators, various power and hand tools, hydraulic boom truck, light and heavy trucks, other motorized equipment, lawn equipment, sewage processing and lift station equipment.
Knowledge of:
• Generators, pumps, gear boxes and gear drives.
• Tools, methods, materials, and techniques of an equipment/lift station Technician.
• Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and lawn equipment.
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Basic mathematics.
Skill in:
• Working in a group as a team, with hand and power tools, lawn equipment, basic electrical test equipment and performing maintenance and repair task efficiently and cost effectively.
Ability to:
• Read and understand manuals, specifications, drawings, and follows oral and written instructions.
• Work as a member of a team with the ability to accomplish the task at hand efficiently and effectively while following all safety procedures, bec
