Today I want to share something important with all of my clients and friends.
Earlier today, I took my youngest son to see a dermatologist because he had some skin issues on his hands and feet. During the consultation, I took the opportunity to ask a question I’ve heard many times over the years from many of you:
“Is chlorine bad for the skin?”
The answer from the dermatologist here in the United States was very clear — and it may surprise you.
According to her, current medical understanding shows that properly balanced chlorine in pools can actually be BENEFICIAL for the skin in many cases. She explained that chlorine:
• Helps calm itching and irritation
• Kills bacteria that remain on the skin
• Helps keep pores cleaner
• Can support certain skin conditions when exposure is controlled
She even mentioned that, in some situations, dermatologists recommend controlled exposure to chlorinated pool water and allowing it to remain on the skin for a period of time, as it can help reduce bacteria and improve skin comfort.
This is not something I read online or guessed — this information comes directly from a licensed dermatologist during a real medical consultation.
I know many people believe that saltwater systems are “better” or “healthier” than chlorine pools. But it’s important to understand that ALL pools, including saltwater pools, still use chlorine — just generated in a different way.
The key is not avoiding chlorine — it’s maintaining proper chemical balance.
As a pool professional, my goal has always been to keep your pool water clean, safe, and properly balanced — not only for clarity, but for your health and comfort as well.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted me over the years. I truly appreciate your support, your questions, and your commitment to keeping your pools in the best condition possible.
If you ever have concerns or questions about your pool water, I’m always here to help.
