One of the main reasons why rat infestations grow is: a hyper focus on killing (trapping rats with traps, or killing them with cats, guns, or reoccurring services that stock poison bait stations), because killing doesn't end infestations. Period.

Eliminating shelter in home/business structures, eliminating harborage outside, and eliminating regular excessive food supplies ends infestations.

I try not to roll my eyes when new customers start talking about cats and guns.

Cats aren't all ratters, in fact most aren't.

HOW MUCH I HATE RECURRING INFESTATIONS - "For years I've been looking at this fence in front of the last open part of a secure deck watching the squirrels and rats run under it and into a part of the crawlspace I'm too fat to access thinking, 'There's no way to block this off!' Well folks, today I decided I was done trapping all the rats and squirrels in the neighborhood and I did something about it." Note the old buried fish pond I had to unearth to bury the mesh properly.
