Delayed Starts this Morning Across Green Clean Birmingham

While we wait, let's review our Safety Checklist for You, Your Family and Home this Week.

Bundle Up: Layering is key. Wear insulated clothing, hats, gloves, and scarves to keep your body heat trapped.

Protect Your Pipes: Prevent frozen pipes by insulating them. You can wrap towels, blankets, even old newspapers around them. Allow faucets to drip slowly to keep water flowing, reducing the risk of freezing.

Seal Gaps: Cold air can sneak in through gaps around doors and windows. Seal them with weather stripping or draft stoppers to maintain indoor warmth. If you don't have those, you can roll up a towel and use that in place of a draft stopper.

Heating Safety: If using space heaters, keep them at least three feet away from flammable materials. Turn them off when leaving the room or going to sleep.

Vehicle Precautions: Check your vehicle's antifreeze levels, battery, and tire pressure. Keep an emergency kit with blankets, snacks, and other essentials.

Stay Informed: Monitor weather updates and follow any advisories or warnings. Be prepared to adjust plans based on changing conditions.

Emergency Kit: Prepare an emergency kit with essentials like non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, and blankets in case of power outages.

Pet Care: Bring outdoor pets inside or provide them with shelter and warmth. Ensure they have enough food and water.

Avoid Ice: Be cautious of icy surfaces. Walk carefully and use ice melt or sand on slippery sidewalks and driveways.

Community Support: Check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those with limited mobility. Offer assistance if needed.

Remember, preparation is KEY when facing a hard freeze.
