How to inspect a house for rat entry holes
In some ways, rats are easier to get out of a building than mice are, but they are both extraordinarily tough animals to evict once they’re in. Rat holes are slightly larger than mouse holes, meaning you’re more likely to spot them when you inspect. Holes that are bigger than about half an inch will let a rat in. Mice need holes smaller than that: three-eights of an inch. You must look for all holes - cracks in brickwork and structures, and gaps that are about a quarter of an inch and larger.
