🌞 Employee Spotlight: Maranda’s Employment Journey
Maranda has been connected with Options services for more than 16 years and recently reached another milestone in her employment journey by joining the team at Blackbird Laundry as a Laundry Attendant.
Maranda began receiving services through Options in January 2010, participating in day services and community-based employment programs. During that time, she developed workplace skills and gained experience that prepared her for competitive employment.
In May 2013, Maranda secured independent employment in the community. Over the years, she worked at several local businesses, including Coborn’s, Pizza Pub, and Willy’s on the Water. With support from an Employment Specialist, she maintained long-term employment at each location and built a strong record of reliability and consistency.
As Blackbird Laundry prepared to open, Maranda expressed interest in joining the team. With more than a decade of employment experience and a proven track record of reliability, she was hired as the primary Laundry Attendant.
“I was beyond excited,” Maranda said. “I couldn’t wait for the laundromat to open and for this next chapter in my employment journey to begin.”
Reflecting on her experience with Options, Maranda says the organization helped her build confidence and independence.
“Options has inspired me over the years to be self-motivated, strive for success, and gain confidence in myself,” she said. “They make sure people with disabilities are treated with respect and have a voice.”
Since starting at Blackbird Laundry, Maranda has enjoyed learning the responsibilities of her new role. Some of her favorite tasks include vacuuming, cleaning dryers and floors, and using the roller stool purchased to help her complete her work more efficiently.
“It’s top-notch,” Maranda said. “I want one at home!”
As she settles into her position, Maranda is focused on continuing to learn new skills and contribute to the success of the business.
“It’s still hard to wrap my head around the fact that I work for Options now,” Maranda said. “They supported me in my employment journey for so many years, and now I’m part of their team.”
Maranda’s employment journey reflects years of commitment, growth, and successful employment in the community. Her transition to Blackbird Laundry represents the next step in a career built through experience, determination, and a willingness to take on new challenges. We congratulate her on this achievement and look forward to her continued success at Blackbird Laundry.
