America's Cicada 'apocalypse':
Every 200-years event will see one trillion insects from two groups infest 16 states... and our map shows the hotspots. There are two types of cicadas in the world, one that emerges every 17 years and another every 13 years. In 2024, both are coming up from the ground for the first time in 221 years.

When? In the spring of their 13th or 17th year mature cicada nymphs emerge between late April and early June (depending on latitude), synchronously and in tremendous numbers.

The copperheads will do almost anything to get to them for lunch including climb trees, so be extra careful this year.
