Rynette Torres Complaint – Our response.
My comments are in response to the complaint Rynette Torres offered over Face Book concerning a wedding dress we cleaned. We have cameras in our stores for documentation purposes. The evening I first heard of the complaint, our three managers were investigating the incident that night be reviewing the video.
• The dress was brought in on April 17, 2024
• Ms. Torres requested “clean and press” only. (No wedding dress boxing) She didn’t want to pay the fee for the box.
• The order included a comforter and a pair of underwear.
• It was picked up December 17, 2024, 8 months after she dropped it off.
• Wedding dresses are packaged with two bags: one over the top of the dress and one from the bottom up to protect the bottom of the dress. If no boxing is requested, we send all dresses out on a hanger with a bust form. This order had a bust form.
• In reviewing the cameras, when Ms. Torres came to pick up the dress the attendant, in taking the long dress off the rack, stepped on the bottom bag and it fell off.
o The attendant should have hung the dress and attached a new bag to the bottom of the dress. He was concerned about keeping the customer waiting so he brought it forward. He has been addressed on this.
• He proceeded to the counter with the dress with the top poly cover in place. Our attendant stated that Ms. Torres asked if there “was a box to put the dress in?”
• Our attendant looked at the invoice and noticed that a wedding box was not requested on the original order but offered a plastic bag, which, by all indications, Ms. Torres was comfortable with as she helped him place the dress in the bag.
o It should be noted that is not acceptable for our company.
• If Ms. Torres was not happy with the presentation of the dress at the counter, she should have rejected it and asked to have it repackaged. After 8 months, one more day would have certainly been acceptable.
• Our manager called her the next day to hear Ms. Torrez complaint and to address it. She offered to reclean and repackage at no expense but was rejected out of hand.
• The offer still stands.
A few personal comments:
• Working as a dry cleaning attendant takes about a year to be proficient at the job. My two employees in Spearfish have less than a year between them.
• That being said, the responsibility of their inexperience falls to me and me alone. I own the failure of how the dress was presented to the customer. Even though this is the only time this has ever happened, I still own it.
• Ms. Torres knows me personally. If she felt she had the right to complain about it on Facebook, she should have rejected it at the counter. My business card is on the counter and I’m very accessible.
• As a fellow business owner who I assume has employees, I am disappointed in the lack of common courtesy she offered my company and my young employee. I would never consider doing that to a fellow member of our business community.
• That being said, Ms. Torres has never reached out to me on this matter, or to one of our managers.
I would like to thank the concerned friends and customers who know us and our quality of work that contacted us about this situation so we can address it. Your motives are noble.
