Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring⦠except maybe a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
But roaches peeked out thinking βWe might live in there!β
The kids were all nestled and snug in their beds,
While bed bugs held meetings near footboards and heads.
And Mama in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down when we heard a faint snap.
Out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the cupboard I flew like a flash
Only to see ants parading through our Christmas stash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a sleigh full of bait and a tech with no fear.
With a sprayer and granules stacked high in the rig,
I knew in a momentβEagle Pest was that big.
More rapid than eagles the technicians came,
They whistled and shouted and called pests by name:
βNow Roaches! Now Spiders! Mice and Ants too!
Termites and Waspsβyour eviction is due!β
To the baseboards and door frames, the attic and wall,
βDash away, dash away, dash away all!β
As dry leaves before the wild Arkansas winds fly,
These pests scattered fast as our team rolled by.
Then up to the rooftop the technicians flew,
With dusters, flashlights, and solutions brand new.
And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The scurrying of rodentsβtheyβd soon be aloof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Down the chimney our tech came in a single bound.
He was dressed all in gear, from his hat to his boots,
And carried equipment for handling recruits.
His eyesβhow they focused! His aimβoh so steady!
Youβd think heβd trained year-round for Christmas Eve already.
He inspected each corner from ceiling to floor,
And assured me, βDonβt worryβthere wonβt be one more.β
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
Evicting each pest with a confident smirk.
Then nodding his head and giving a grin,
He said, βThis home is protectedβthose pests wonβt get in.β
He sprang to his truck, gave the crew a quick whistle,
And away they all flew like an arrow from a missile.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sightβ
βMerry Christmas from Eagle Pest,
And to ALL a good night!β
