Laura's Home-N-Garden

Laura's Home-N-Garden Licensed cleaner who does everything from house cleaning to home repairs to gardening, with flexible Once, her pipes burst at 10:30 at night.

A native Memphian and married for over 20 years, Laura raised four children, worked a career and kept a home in running order, practically by herself. This way, she learned how to keep just about anything up, and running. With small children, and her husband gone for another three days, she could have either called a plumber, have had no water for 3-5 days, or fixed it by herself. You guessed it r

ight; she fixed the pipe! She has also replaced several toilets, pipes, faucets, garbage disposals, and whatever else that was needed to be done. After her children started becoming independent, she began to have a strong desire to come out of corporate America. She ultimately came back to what she knew best - caring for a home, and garden. This, of course, includes all aspects of general cleaning, lawn care and gardening, minor household repairs, cooking, and running errands. Now that she has done all these things more for herself, her family and her neighbors, she would like to be able to do them for you. When you have a house, garden, or moving need, she is just a phone call away!

Who’s responsible for the “manufactured” border crisis?

02/06/2017

Hi all. Sorry I've been out lately. My page has been doing bizarre things. Now it looks like I'm back.
With spring just around the corner, I'm not going to preach to you about de-cluttering. I have something else you may be interested in knowing: slow drains. They are an extremely common problem. They cause lots of headaches. The two main ways are:1 I spend 3 times as much time in the offending sink, or bathtub than I should, as I must keep stopping, and swishing the water around to prevent debris from settling back down. 2, I must run a lot more water to get it out: in both ways costing you money. If I can, I will sometimes be able to remove the clog with a plunger. If that doesn't work, then you should try Liquid Plumber, as it is designed specifically for clogged drains. If these methods both fail, then you will need to call a plumber to snake it out. You NEVER, EVER want anyone but a licensed plumber doing such a thing, as they have sharp blades that go about 1,000 RPM's. Someone not experienced can destroy your pipes, and your insurance may not cover the damage. I could be wrong on that one, but why take chances. Expensive, but in the long run worth it in time, aggravation, and money you save in properly draining pipes.
Until Next time, Have a great month

Hi all.
I hope you're having a wonderful holiday season so far.
With all the extra company and cooking, things seem to pile up.
When cleaning your kitchen, whether it's an extra busy time, or not, you should scrub out your disposal at least once per month. I tend to about once per week, as I tend to wash raw meat before cooking. Along with the entire sink, as well as any utensils. This is not nescessary all the time, but we want to keep pathogens down.
It is best to use oxygen bleach. Not only does it disinfect, it is also easier on the eyes, and respiratory system, and wont destroy a surface if it spills: and while I hope you use latex gloves for such work, if you don't its also easier on the skin.
Once again, have a great holiday

Hi all. The holidays are getting closer every day. Soon we will all be hustling, and bustling, preparing for loved ones to visit.
If you have granite counter tops, you may already know, NEVER use chlorine bleach on them. While the stone itself is pretty indestructable, the laminate isn't. If you wish to use a ready made solution , Simple Green has a decent product that cleans, and shines. Like all solutions, it can be expensive to use. My personal favorite is vinegar, followed by Murphy's oil soap solutions. The vinegar cleans, and disinfects. The Murphy's makes the surface shiny, and smooth. The best part: it costs about 2/3 less than the other products. All of my clients are thrilled with their counter tops.
Happy Thanks giving

Hi all Wow! Can you believe it's October. How quickly the time goes by.
One of the things that comes with cooler weather is skin rashes. If you already have eczema, psoriasis, or any other skin condition, cold weather can exacerbate it. One thing you can do, not just in the winter, but all year is to avoid bleach, or alcohol based products. Once again, vinegar, and baking soda to the rescue.
I can't stress enough the benefits of these products in your home.
If you need any scrubbing, oxygen bleach is always great. It is a mixture of baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. It will power out the worst mold, and grunge, without causing any reactions.
Also, a good, alcohol free lotion with oatmeal is best for dry, or rashy skin.
Have a great month

I must clarify something. Last month I recommended tea tree oil for fleas. What I actually used, quite successfully, was citronella. Tea tree oil may not be good for them. The citronella worked great. Killed all the fleas, made her smell good, and her coat soft, and shiny.
Sorry for my boo boo.

Happy Labor day all,
It's September already, with fall just around the corner. Of course, we still have several months of hot, humid weather ahead of us.
That, of course, means more pests.
Last month I talked about fleas. This month, it's flies. If you seem to have any infestation at all, either small, or of Biblical proportions, the key is keeping them out in the first place.
If you've seen the ziplock bags hanging in doors, with a penny in them, well, they work. I tried it.
The key is this: Insects use their sense of sight, as well as smell to maneuver, and find food. The bag, with, or without the penny causes a blurred view, fooling the flies. Though they smell food, the veer away, looking for an easier entrance.
Hopefully, this will help keep your home clean, and bug free.
Have a great September
