Last Friday, Avery County Veterans, our local First Responders, and members of our local JROTC came together to present Erin and Derek Buchanan, owners of Wheels Contracting, with an American flag that was flown over Afghanistan on September 11, 2009.
To the Veterans who have served our country, the First Responders who serve and protect our community every day, and the young men and women of JROTC who are learning what it means to lead and serve — thank you. Having these groups come together to entrust Wheels Contracting with such a meaningful piece of American history is something we will never take for granted.
September 11th is a day forever etched into the heart of our nation. We remember the innocent lives taken too soon, the First Responders who ran toward danger, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the men and women who answered the call to serve our country in the years that followed.
This flag will hang proudly in the center of our conference room. We hope it becomes more than something displayed on a wall. We hope it starts conversations about service, sacrifice, patriotism, and the importance of continuing to tell the stories of September 11th for generations to come.
To our Avery County Veterans, First Responders, and JROTC — thank you for giving this flag a home at Wheels Contracting. We are deeply honored. 🇺🇸
