It's one of the most common things we hear when homeowners call about fleas this time of year.

And honestly? They're usually surprised to learn that fleas don't always come from dogs or cats.

In fact, fleas can find their way onto a property through wildlife, hitch a ride inside after time outdoors, or become established around areas where animals have been nesting nearby.

The tricky part is that once fleas get indoors, they reproduce quickly.

😮 A single female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day.

That's also why many over-the-counter treatments only provide temporary relief. While adult fleas may disappear for a short time, eggs and larvae can remain behind, leading to another wave of activity a few weeks later.

Have you noticed a large gray, papery nest forming in a tree or along your roofline? 👀🐝

This time of year, it could be a bald-faced hornet nest.

While nests often start small, they can grow surprisingly quickly throughout the summer. By late season, a single colony may contain hundreds of hornets.

A few things to know:

✅ Bald-faced hornets commonly build nests in trees, shrubs, eaves, and rooflines

✅ Their nests are enclosed and gray in color, unlike the open comb structure of many paper wasp nests

✅ They are highly protective of their colonies and may sting repeatedly if they feel threatened

Because nests are often located high above the ground or tucked into hard-to-reach areas, removal can be challenging and potentially dangerous without the proper equipment and training.
