Just two weeks until the ALS Walk of Georgia!

For the past 15 years, Steve Collins has faithfully participated in this walk in honor of his father, Larry Collins, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2010.

What started as a way to honor his dad has become a tradition of hope, remembrance, and giving back to the ALS community. Year after year, Steve has continued to show up with the same commitment to raising awareness and supporting the search for a cure.

This year, we’re incredibly close to reaching our fundraising goal—and we couldn’t have come this far without the generosity of our amazing customers, friends, and community.

To everyone who has donated, shared our mission, walked beside us, or simply offered words of encouragement: thank you. Your support means more than you know, and it reminds us that this community truly shows up for one another.

If you’ve been thinking about donating, there’s still time to help us reach our goal before September 19. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps support ALS research and families affected by this disease.

“What even is a boiler?” 🤔

It’s one of the most important pieces of equipment in our shop—and without it, dry cleaning as you know it simply wouldn’t happen.

Our boiler produces the steam that powers much of our operation. It’s used to press garments, remove wrinkles, and help create that crisp, professional finish you expect when you pick up your clothes.

You may never see it when you visit Sig Samuels, but behind the scenes, our boiler is one of the hardest-working “team members” in the building!

We love giving you a peek behind the curtain and showing you what goes into caring for your garments. After all, there’s a lot more to dry cleaning than meets the eye.

A few weeks ago, we officially retired a true piece of Sig Samuels history—our boiler that had faithfully served our shop since 1995.

For nearly 30 years, it worked tirelessly behind the scenes, helping us care for countless garments and keeping our business running day after day. But after decades of service, it had finally reached the end of its journey.

What many people don’t realize is that replacing something this essential isn’t as simple as unplugging one machine and rolling in another. Before we could even think about installing a new boiler, we first had to make room for it.

That meant carefully removing the old boiler and tearing down part of the existing boiler room structure to prepare for a much larger, more modern replacement.

Watching a piece of our history come down was bittersweet, but we knew it was the first step toward investing in the future of Sig Samuels.

Sometimes, even the most dependable members of the team deserve a well-earned retirement.

A few weeks ago, we said goodbye to a true piece of Sig Samuels history—our boiler, which faithfully served our shop for nearly 30 years.

Installed in 1995, this old workhorse helped clean and press countless garments and saw decades of customers walk through our doors. It stood by us through busy seasons, long days, and cold winter nights. In fact, during freezing weather, Steve and Broy would set alarms every two hours throughout the night to make sure it was still running. That’s just one of the many behind-the-scenes sacrifices made to keep serving our customers.

This boiler was here while Tom Jr., Mike, and Larry Collins helped carry on the Sig Samuels legacy, making it much more than just a piece of equipment—it became part of our story.

While we’re sad to see it go, we also see this as a blessing in disguise. A new boiler means we can continue providing the same quality, care, and craftsmanship you’ve trusted for generations—now with a little help from some modern technology.

Here’s to honoring the past while investing in the future. Thank you for being part of our journey and for supporting our family business through every chapter.

Meet the Garment: Jeans

You probably wear them all the time… but are you washing them too often?

For most people, jeans only need to be cleaned every 5–10 wears, unless they’ve become stained, sweaty, or picked up strong odors. Washing denim too frequently can cause colors to fade, fibers to wear out, and your favorite pair to lose its shape.

Here are a few tips to help your jeans last longer:
✔️ Spot clean small stains when you can.
✔️ Turn them inside out before washing.
✔️ Wash in cold water.
✔️ Skip the dryer when possible and air dry to help maintain their fit.

A little extra care goes a long way in keeping your denim looking its best!

At Sig Samuels, our story is built on more than garments—it’s built on the people who shaped our business and the values they left behind.

Larry Collins was one of those people.

After being diagnosed with ALS, Larry faced every challenge with remarkable strength, grace, and determination. Although his journey ended far too soon, his legacy continues to inspire our family, our team, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Today, we honor Larry by helping raise awareness for ALS and remembering the countless individuals and families whose lives have been touched by this disease.

Thank you for taking a moment to remember Larry with us. His dedication to excellence, his love for this community, and his unwavering spirit remain a part of Sig Samuels every single day.
