I get asked a lot by friends, family, and customers:
How can I "keep" my house clean?!
Of course it's overwhelming when you "think" you have to do it ALL in one day. And that overwhelming feeling will actually keep you from NOT doing it at all! But contrary to popular belief and "old fashioned thinking" (As a child, it was everyone, every Sunday, cleaning!), You don't "have" to do it all at once on the same day.
Make a plan! A "daily" schedule! Rotating those chores throughout the week. I know what you're thinking: I've worked all day! I don't WANT to clean the bathroom! But you "want" a clean house, right?!
I'm probably giving you advice that will keep me out of a job:: but my main goal is to HELP you. Whether it's doing it for you OR giving you advice to help yourself, family, and home!
*A clean home is a happy home.
*A family that cleans together is happy together (in a clean home).
*Husband hires a weekly cleaning service makes a happy wife, happier.
Below is a starter list you can tailor to your home's need (and dole out those chores for kids to help!). Remember: you don't have to do it ALL, in ONE day, to keep the overwhelmings at bay.
My Home's To Do Schedule (Yes, even after cleaning others homes all day!)
:
*Floors. Pick a room or two, but NOT all. Example: Kitchen and living room. Sweep, mop, vacuum, etc. It's only a room or two. (Pro Tip: When sweeping/vacuuming: hit those baseboards! A good "brushing" with the broom! I promise it helps in the long run when it's time for spring cleaning! You won't have that "buildup" on it of dust that happens over time.) 20 mins, tops!
:
*Bathrooms. If you only have 2, I suggest doing both on the same day. Including the bathroom floors on this. If you have more than that, do the master bath on a day you clean YOUR room. Depending on severity: 15-30mins.
*The Oven. This can be a heavy chore if you haven't cleaned it in awhile. Once you start cleaning it weekly, it shouldn't be. First time: 30+mins. Weekly: 10mins (if that!).
*The Fridge. Same as the oven if it's been awhile since a deep cleaning. Shelves, drawers, walls, etc. This is a great time to get rid of left overs: pot luck dinner night, if they're still good! Toss out old veggies/fruits, almost empty jars of condiments, etc. Get it fresh and ready for those new groceries you'll be putting in it for the week! (We do our grocery shopping on Friday's.) First time: 30mins+. Weekly 10mins (or less! And may only require a light wipe down.)
*Remaining Floors/Bathrooms and Dusting. You don't want to do that on the weekend, do you?! Be sure to get those ceiling fans, too!
*Porches. Before you sit and enjoy your view, have company over, etc: give it a good sweep, wipe down your table/chairs. Time will vary depending on size and last time it was done.
*Clean YOUR room! And have your kids clean theirs! Start Monday off right with an organized room! I promise, it will help you and your loved ones start the week off right mentally!
I know what you're thinking: what about laundry?! Again, you don't have to do it ALL in one day! Work in ONE load, if possible, every other day. Who wants to do laundry all weekend!!? Have family members help with folding, taking and putting away their own clothes to their rooms.
I know this isn't a complete list of everything that needs doing in your home, but it's a start, as I said before! Modify it to your home and family. Quit with the overwhelming yourself! Rome was not built in a day.. and a house shouldn't be cleaned all in one day.
But if you find yourself overwhelmed, not having the time, not having the support you need to "keep" it clean: then, CALL ME! I'll be glad to help maintain or get you started- in one day π: weekly, bi weekly, or monthly! I got you! π₯°
