This morning, well before the sun began to rise, I was making my way toward UGA’s Sanford Stadium for something that holds a very special place in my heart.

Members of Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services and law enforcement, alongside Army and Air Force ROTC cadets, came together for a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Bio-One of Athens was honored to be there with cold drinks and support as these men and women pushed themselves through the climb—many wearing full firefighting gear—in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

That day changed the trajectory of my own life and ultimately led to many deployments overseas during my military career. Twenty-five years later, I will never forget those who ran toward danger when others were running away.

I’m forever grateful for those who have dedicated—and continue to dedicate—their lives to serving others, whether through their community, their church, or this great nation.

Today, we remember. We honor. And we never forget. 🇺🇸
