A letter from the owners….
💩 We’ve been wanting to say this for a while…
Apparently picking up dog p**p is becoming a pretty popular business. Spend five minutes online and you’ll probably see why. Make six figures scooping p**p. Become a “scoop millionaire.” Recurring revenue. Start with almost nothing. There are courses, coaches and entire businesses built around teaching people how to take basically the same formula and drop it into the next available market.
That isn’t how Koby’s happened.
Nobody sold us a blueprint or handed us a territory. Nobody told us what to charge, how to talk to our customers, what services to offer, what our brand should look like, or what Koby’s was supposed to become. We had an idea, thought maybe it could work, and then spent the next three seasons figuring out how the hell to actually make it work.
And we definitely didn’t get everything right. We’ve changed prices, changed routes, added things, gotten rid of things, tried ideas that worked great and tried some that absolutely did not. We listened to our customers, learned as we went and just kept building.
One yard became a few. A few became a route. One town became several. Somewhere along the way, this weird little idea turned into a real business that our family is pretty damn proud of.
And maybe “real” is one of the things we’re most proud of.
When you see Koby’s, you’re actually seeing Koby’s. Real yards. Real photos. Real customers. Real dogs. Real reviews. Real people.
If the grass is brown before we scoop it, it’s probably still going to be brown when we’re done. If there’s mud, leaves, toys, dead grass or somebody’s dog staring at us through the window, they’re probably making the picture too. When we share a review, those are our customer’s words. What you see is what actually happened.
It might not always make for the prettiest advertisement, but that’s okay. We’re p**p scoopers. There’s only so much glamour to work with here. 😂
Now, three seasons later, Northeast Ohio is apparently looking pretty attractive to the p**p-scooping industry.
Funny how that works.
Because Koby’s didn’t show up after somebody else proved there was a market here. We were here doing the proving. One customer, one yard, one neighborhood and one recommendation at a time.
So yeah, we’re protective of what we’ve built. We remember what it took to get here, and we know there’s a hell of a lot more to Koby’s than a number on a customer list. You can’t download three seasons of relationships. You can’t buy the trust people have put in us. And you can’t copy and paste your way into being part of a community.
And to everybody who gave this ridiculous little business a chance, told a neighbor about us, tagged Koby’s when somebody asked for a scooper, left us a review, laughed at one of our stupid jokes, trusted us with your yard, or let us try another one of our ideas along the way… you helped us build this.
You helped us build something worth competing for.
The industry is growing. Companies are expanding. More people are realizing there’s a real business hiding behind all that p**p.
Good. We helped prove it.
We’re going to keep doing what got us here. Trying things. Learning as we go. Taking care of our customers. Supporting our communities. Coming up with ideas that may or may not be completely ridiculous. And figuring out just how far we can take this thing.
We didn’t buy somebody else’s blueprint.
We built ours.
And we’re still figuring out just how far we can take it. 💚🐾
