Recently, Virginia expanded the Imported Fire Ant quarantine to include Chesterfield and the Tri-Cities area. 🐜🔥

These ants are aggressive, their stings are painful, and disturbing mounds can make the problem worse. ⚠️

What homeowners should do:

✅ Don’t kick or mow mounds
✅ Keep kids & pets away from suspected Fire Ant hills 🐶👶
✅ Use bait-based control (instead of “stirring up” the mound)
✅ If you’re unsure, get an inspection and a plan that prevents repeat problems 🏡

IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN RICHMOND, VA!

You’re not imagining it — when Richmond gets hit with extended cold, rodents look for warmth and nesting material fast 🐭➡️🏡

Why it’s happening right now ❄️

When the ground stays cold and food is harder to find, mice and rats start hunting for:

🏠 Heat (your crawlspace and attic are two of the warmest “hidden” spaces)
🧱 Nesting material (attic insulation is basically a giant blanket)

It's time for our featured PEST OF THE WEEK:

Springtails ❄️🏠

If you’ve seen tiny dark “specks” near windowsills or bathrooms that jump when you touch them… you might be dealing with springtails 👀🕵️‍♂️

Springtails are often mistaken for fleas (but they don’t live on pets).

They’re mostly a moisture indicator—and in winter, that moisture can build up in hidden areas like the attic and insulation 💧⬆️🧱

Why springtails show up in winter here:

Homes are sealed tight ❄️🚪, humidity gets trapped 🌫️, and condensation can form in attics—especially when insulation is damp or ventilation isn’t balanced 🧱💦🌬️
Springtails feed on mold/fungus and organic moisture sources 🍄💧

What to look for ✅

Tiny gray/black bugs that hop when disturbed 🤏➡️🦘
