Using too much detergent is a waste of money and can actually damage newer washing machines because of the oversudsing.

Always ensure you measure the appropriate amount of detergent for your machine and the load you are washing.
Too many suds is an indication of too much detergent. It might shut down your high-efficiency machine, and can wear on the equipment over time.

Also, it's important to use the detergent made for your washer.
Today, many detergents are manufactured for either regular or high-efficiency machines so be sure to use the one formulated for your washer.

Because baking soda is a natural deodorizer and cleanser, and also softens water, if you are not using it when you do laundry, it might be something you want to start including in your wash.

Since commercial fabric softeners stick to towel fibers and make them less absorbent, use baking soda as a natural softener alternative. In place of fabric softener, add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the rinse cycle.

If the scent of fabric softener is a reason you use it, try this instead. Dampen an old washcloth and add three to five drops of your favorite essential oil. Add that washcloth to the dryer with your towels for a natural fragrance.

If you are in an area where the water has a high mineral content (hard water), add 1/4 box of baking soda to each load of laundry to soften the water. If you have a water softener, there is no need to include baking soda for that purpose.

If lint or pet hair on your clothes is a problem, Restora lint rollers can help you, and are available at the counter when you pick up or drop off your clothes at Clean All. The rollers are also good for sofas and pillows.

A sticky lint roller is often the best option for removing pet hair and it should be used before putting clothes in the washing machine. Also, reducing static cling on clothes with an anti-static spray can help loosen hair and make it easier to remove with a lint roller.

If washable clothing or bedding is covered with pet hair, run the items through the dryer on a no-heat cycle prior to putting them in a washing machine. The tumbling action of the dryer will loosen much of the hair and it will accumulate in the dryer lint trap. A lint roller can be used to remove remaining hair. Clean the dryer lint trap promptly after using this technique.

According to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), flooding is the most common and costly disaster in the United States. Whether you experience flooding due to heavy rain or from a plumbing issue (leaky or broken pipe), you should address the task of dealing with laundry as soon as possible to prevent contamination from mold or mildew, and to keep stains from setting. Because mildew is difficult to remove, if it is too bad, your clothing may not be salvageable.

Clean All has large commercial washers that you can use to do your laundry yourself, or we can take care of that task for you. If you choose to do your own laundry, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Prewash fabrics in cool water. Hot water may set in stains. Use small loads with a full water level and allow clothes to rinse and spin dry.

After doing a prewash, clothes can be washed using the hottest temperature that is safe for the fabrics being cleaned. Always check labels to see what is safe for your wash.

Check the rinse water. If it is dirty or cloudy, the clothes need to be washed again. If the water is clear, clothes should be clean.

Since heat from the dryer can set stains, avoid drying clothes until you are satisfied with the results of the cleaning.

If your detergent includes bleach, that is not enough to disinfect your clothes. You will still need to add bleach.

Pillows get dirty from routine use, both with oils, dirt and sweat from our head and face, and with allergens from dust mites and dead skin cells. As a result, we are routinely breathing that in. Consequently, it is a good practice to wash your pillows every three to six months.

Pillowcases should be washed at least once a week, if not twice a week.
If you have allergen-proof covers that zip up around your pillows, washing them every month or two helps reduce issues with allergies and generally keeps things cleaner.

Before doing any cleaning, read the label on the pillow for the process that is appropriate for what you use. While some pillows can be washed, others may need to be dry cleaned. Memory foam pillows should not be washed in a machine or placed in a dryer.

If your pillows can be washed, a front-loading, non-agitating washing machine protects them from damage. If you don’t have that type washer, you can bring them to Clean All and wash them in one of our large commercial machines, or you can drop them off and we can wash them for you.

Before putting a machine-washable pillows in the washer, remove the pillows from any pillow case or cover.
It is important to check the pillows for tears. Damaged pillows should not go in a washing machine since the fill material could come out.

Placing two pillows in the washing machine helps keep the load balanced. Set the wash cycle to delicate and use cold water to avoid shrinking the pillows.

If you are washing in your own machine, consider selecting the setting for an extra rinse. This will help ensure that no detergent residue remains after your down pillows come out of the washing machine. Clean All's larger commercial machines automatically have an extra rinse cycle.

When ready to dry, set the dryer temperature to the lowest setting. Avoid using pillows until they’re 100 percent dry.
