Employee Spotlight: Randy

Meet Randy, one of our Estimators
Randy joined Horizon Commercial Pools four years ago, but he has been working around pools since he was just 12 years old.

He's also always on the hunt for new restaurants and hidden speakeasies with family and friends.

Some of Randy's favorites:
- Favorite season: Spring
- Bucket list trip: New Zealand
- Fun fact: He's an advanced certified scuba diver and has completed some incredible dives in Roatan.

His favorite part of the job is helping customers find the right solution for restoring their pools and seeing the finished project come together successfully.

Thanks for everything you do, Randy!

The Flooring That Turns a Pool Deck Into a Safer One.

Concrete pool decks were the standard for 50 years. They were also the reason for scraped knees, slip-and-fall claims, and complaints about hot surfaces in July. Life Floor modernized the category.

Key benefits of Life Floor:
✨ Padded foam cushioning for softer landings
✨ High slip-resistance when wet
✨ Cooler underfoot than concrete or tile in direct sun
✨ Antimicrobial surface & ADA-compliant
✨ Installs over existing surfaces—no rip-and-replace required!

The Off-Season Is Your Certification Window.

For outdoor commercial facilities, October marks the start of the calmest stretch of the year, this is the right window to get new operators trained or renew certifications that are running out. Don't wait until spring rush when seating fills up.

Why certify with Horizon?
✔️ Online and in-person options
✔️ Meets State Health Department requirements
✔️ 5-year certificate coverage

Classes run through the end of the year, with 2027 dates coming soon.

If You Run an Indoor Pool, You Should Be Running UV.

UV isn't a luxury upgrade. It's the sanitation layer that solves the problems chlorine alone can't.

What UV actually does for an indoor commercial pool:
✔️ Destroys chloramines (eliminates chlorine smell & red eyes)
✔️ Kills chlorine-resistant pathogens like Cryptosporidium
✔️ Reduces overall chemical demand
✔️ Extends the life of chloramine-sensitive equipment

Installations are best planned during scheduled facility closures. Schedule a consultation to plan yours.

This week we're recognizing Taylor Steinbach! Taylor has been part of the Horizon Commercial Pools team for more than seven years as one of our Drivers.

Taylor loves that his job keeps him on the move, allowing him to travel to different cities while helping customers throughout the day. When he's not working, you'll likely find him golfing, spending time with family and friends, or hanging out with his two boxers, Kirko and Ziggy.

A few fun facts about Taylor:
• Favorite season: Fall (especially football season!)
• Bucket list: Visit Hawaii and attend the Masters Tournament
• Surprise fact: He has five brothers!

Thanks for everything you do, Taylor!

Indoor Filters Don't Take a Season Off.

While outdoor pools are winding down, year-round indoor facilities are gearing up. Fall is one of the best windows on the calendar to plan a sand change before winter bather loads surge.

Signs it's time to schedule a sand change:
🔹 Backwash cycles closer together than usual
🔹 Pressure climbing quickly after a rinse
🔹 Water clarity dipping without a chemistry explanation
🔹 Chemical demand creeping up

Industry standard for year-round indoor pools is a sand change every 3–5 years.

Improperly stored chemicals, weak ventilation, or missing SDS sheets can turn into quick citations. October is Fire Prevention Month, making it the perfect time to walk your pump room with fresh eyes.

Here is your quick checklist:
✔️ Chemical separation (oxidizers, acids, organics properly zoned)
✔️ Measurable ventilation airflow
✔️ Current SDS sheets & accessible eyewash/spill kits
✔️ Class B/C extinguishers inspected within the year

We’ve been auditing commercial pump rooms across the Midwest since 1993. A real person will walk the room with you and provide a plain-language report.
