🏆🧹 THINGS I’VE LEARNED IN 15 YEARS OF CLEANING — #10

15 years in this business…

I’ve learned that cleaning isn’t just about mops, vacuums and trash bags.

It’s patience.

It’s consistency.

It’s customer service.

It’s problem-solving.

It’s showing up when you’re tired.

It’s dealing with the “Can you just…” people. 😂

It’s seeing something absolutely DISGUSTING and somehow saying:

“Alright… let’s get this together.” 😭🧤

I’ve cleaned some things I can’t unsee, dealt with some situations I can’t explain, and laughed through more chaos than I ever expected.

But after 15 years…

I’m still standing. Still cleaning. Still building. Still laughing. 😂🧹

And honestly?

That’s something worth celebrating. 🥂✨

🧹😂 JANITORIAL INDUSTRY: WHERE “JUST A QUICK CLEAN” IS THE BIGGEST LIE EVER TOLD.

Client: “It shouldn’t take long. The place is pretty clean.”
Me: walks in 👀

Floors: fighting for their lives.
Bathrooms: a crime scene. 🚨
Break room: apparently nobody has ever heard of a trash can.
Windows: holding fingerprints from 2017.
And that one mysterious sticky spot? Still unidentified. 😂

Then comes the classic:
“Can you just do a little extra while you’re here?”

A LITTLE EXTRA?! Ma’am, I’m already halfway through performing CPR on these floors! 😭🤣

But honestly… there’s nothing like walking into a filthy facility and walking out knowing YOU made that transformation happen. 💪🏽✨

Janitorial work may not always be glamorous, but trust me—clean spaces don’t happen by accident. Somebody has to get dirty so everybody else can enjoy clean. 🧽🧹

UNPOPULAR OPINION ABOUT THE JANITORIAL INDUSTRY: 🧹

Not every cleaning company needs more clients.

Some cleaning companies need better clients.

There, I said it. 😂

We’ve been conditioned to believe that growth means taking every contract that comes our way. But after years in this business, I’ve learned that a $5,000 account can cost you more than a $2,000 account if the client constantly changes expectations, pays late, disrespects your employees, or expects champagne service on a beer budget. 🥴

Revenue isn’t always profit.
More accounts aren’t always more success.
And being busy isn’t the same as being profitable.

Sometimes the smartest business move is to fire the client, raise your standards, tighten your processes, and make room for clients who actually value professional cleaning.

After 15 years in this industry, I’d rather have 10 great clients than 30 headaches.

That’s my unpopular opinion. 🧹💯

Cleaning and disinfecting are not the same—and knowing the difference matters.

Cleaning removes visible dirt, dust, and debris from surfaces. It improves appearance and reduces some germs, but it doesn’t necessarily kill them.

Disinfecting uses EPA-approved products to kill bacteria and viruses on hard, non-porous surfaces after they’ve been properly cleaned.

A clean-looking facility isn’t always a hygienic one. The most effective cleaning programs include both steps, applied at the right time and in the right way.

Whether it’s an office, healthcare facility, school, or commercial building, understanding the difference helps create a healthier environment for employees, customers, and visitors.

Clean for appearance. Disinfect for protection. Excellence requires both.
