That isn't a forest. It's one cashew tree.
Near the beach in Pirangi do Norte, Brazil, a single tree has spread across roughly two acres — enough space for about 70 ordinary cashew trees.
The extraordinary part isn't just its size. It's how it grows.
Instead of reaching mainly upward, its branches spread sideways. As they get heavier, they bend toward the ground. When they touch the soil, they can take root and keep growing, creating what looks like a whole grove.
Walk beneath the canopy and you might think you're surrounded by separate trees. You're actually inside one sprawling tree.
This unusual growth is believed to result from two genetic mutations. Its exact age is uncertain, but it still produces fruit, and visitors can explore beneath its tangled branches.
Most trees grow into the sky. This one seems determined to become the whole neighborhood.
Would you travel to see this tree in person? 🌳
