Cleaning Steps
Use hot water. Begin by pouring approximately 2 cups of hot boiling hot or boiling water down the sink drain.
Add baking soda and diluted vinegar. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda and allow it to sit for 3-5 minutes. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of very hot water, then pour this mixture down the drain. Let the solution sit for 5-10 minutes.
Flush the drain. Finally, run hot water into the sink to clear the drain and eliminate any odors. If necessary, you can use a plunger to loosen the clog and then repeat the steps.
3 Additional Tips to Keep Your Sink Clog-Free
Muentener recommends cleaning the bathroom sink drain once a month with this mixture to help prevent clogs: 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of distilled white vinegar, and 1 cup of warm water. Combine the liquids in a large container and then pour the mixture down the drain.
Use a hair catcher or strainer to catch debris that can clog the drain, and clean it often.
Flush the drain after every use by allowing the hot water to run for at least 1 minute.
