Today, we wrap up Bedbug Awareness Week — and we hope this journey has been helpful, informative, and maybe even a little empowering. Thanks for being here and following along!

📌 Today’s Message: There IS a solution to every bedbug problem.
If you discover bedbugs in your home or belongings, you have options — and we’re here to help you find the one that’s right for you.

After our inspection, we’ll walk you through exactly what you’re up against and offer honest, experience-based advice. But here’s what we always keep in mind:
• Everyone’s tolerance for bedbugs is different
• Everyone’s financial situation is different
• Everyone’s ability (or willingness) to do the work themselves is different

We take all of that into account to help you make the best decision for your circumstances.

The available options are too broad to fully list, but they may include:
• DIY steps you can take right away
• Professional extermination choices
• Preventative strategies for peace of mind before or after an exposure

In the end, know this: DBD will walk beside you through it all 😊 You’ve got this!

Today we’re highlighting the core services Dakota Bedbug Detection (DBD) offers: Detection • Inspection • Education

🐾 Detection
The handler’s job is to set the dog up for success by guiding them carefully through the space and watching for subtle behavioral changes. Buster’s alert means he has detected the pheromones of a live bedbug — in any life stage, including eggs.

🔦 Inspection
Beagles are amazing scent detectors, making them the perfect breed for bedbug work — but even the best nose can’t reach every corner. That’s why DBD pairs canine detection with a detailed visual inspection, searching for signs like f***l spots, shed exoskeletons, and eggs.

💡 Education
We never leave a client guessing. From remediation options to prevention strategies, DBD ensures every client walks away informed, empowered, and ready to take the next step.

Keep an eye out for Survival Sunday, where we’ll wrap up Bedbug Awareness Week and share practical tips for surviving — ahem, we mean staying — bedbug-free!

We fell a little behind last week (bedbugs don’t wait, but sometimes life makes us!), so we’re catching up now. Better late than never — especially when it comes to creepy facts and helpful truths.

So... Welcome to *slightly delayed* Freaked-Out Friday!

Yes, that is a jar full of bedbugs! If these were in your home, you’d probably feel all the emotions pictured above — and maybe invent a few new ones.

Here’s a proverb from Zaire to kick things off:
“My house burned down… but at least it got rid of the bedbugs.” 😅

Let’s break down some common Fears & Facts:

➡️ Fear: They’re everywhere!
✅ Fact: You’ve probably been in contact with a bedbug — they’re expert hitchhikers, not homebodies.

➡️ Fear: They’re impossible to get rid of!
✅ Fact: Hiding is their only defense. Once found, they’re absolutely manageable with the right help.

➡️ Fear: If I see one, I must have thousands!
✅ Fact: A female can only reproduce once she’s fertilized. After that, she may lay 5–7 eggs a day — but only if she has a steady food supply.

➡️ Fear: They feed on my pets, too!
✅ Fact: Bedbugs struggle to bite through fur. Their mouthparts are built for bare skin, not your furry friends.

➡️ Fear: They spread diseases like mosquitoes!
✅ Fact: Bedbugs don’t transmit diseases. But some people may have allergic reactions to the histamine they inject to keep blood from clotting.

Here’s a quick guide to what these tiny pests look like throughout their life cycle:
• Eggs – Tiny, white, and tubular — like grains of salt
• 1st Instar – White and translucent before feeding; develops a small rust-colored dot after feeding
• 2nd–4th Instars – Pale yellow and translucent with a darker, rust-colored abdomen
• 5th Instar – Burnt-orange to rusty-brown; about the size of an apple seed
• Adult – Rusty brown with dark horizontal striations across the abdomen

🔍 Bonus Tip: Check the shape of the abdomen! Males have pointed abdomens, while females have rounded abdomens. Why does this matter? Because adult females can lay 1–5 eggs per day and 200–500 in a lifetime. If you find a bedbug — or a bug you think might be a bedbug — seal it tightly in a Ziplock bag as it can help with identification later.

Common bedbug lookalikes include: Carpet Beetles, Bat Bugs, Swallow Bugs, Booklice, Spider Beetles, Cockroach Nymphs, Fleas Mites and Ticks.

Still unsure? Give us a call. We specialize in one thing only: BEDBUG DETECTION 🐾
