We fell a little behind last week (bedbugs don’t wait, but sometimes life makes us!), so we’re catching up now. Better late than never — especially when it comes to creepy facts and helpful truths.
So... Welcome to *slightly delayed* Freaked-Out Friday!
Yes, that is a jar full of bedbugs! If these were in your home, you’d probably feel all the emotions pictured above — and maybe invent a few new ones.
Here’s a proverb from Zaire to kick things off:
“My house burned down… but at least it got rid of the bedbugs.” 😅
Let’s break down some common Fears & Facts:
➡️ Fear: They’re everywhere!
✅ Fact: You’ve probably been in contact with a bedbug — they’re expert hitchhikers, not homebodies.
➡️ Fear: They’re impossible to get rid of!
✅ Fact: Hiding is their only defense. Once found, they’re absolutely manageable with the right help.
➡️ Fear: If I see one, I must have thousands!
✅ Fact: A female can only reproduce once she’s fertilized. After that, she may lay 5–7 eggs a day — but only if she has a steady food supply.
➡️ Fear: They feed on my pets, too!
✅ Fact: Bedbugs struggle to bite through fur. Their mouthparts are built for bare skin, not your furry friends.
➡️ Fear: They spread diseases like mosquitoes!
✅ Fact: Bedbugs don’t transmit diseases. But some people may have allergic reactions to the histamine they inject to keep blood from clotting.
