Heads up everyone, we’re starting to see more Lone Star ticks in the area this season, including right here in the Merrimack Valley.

These aren’t your typical ticks. Lone Star ticks are more aggressive, they actively seek out people and pets, and they’ve been spreading more into Massachusetts over the past few years.

A few things to know:
They can carry illnesses like ehrlichiosis
Their bite has been linked to something called Alpha-gal syndrome, which can actually cause a red meat allergy
They tend to live in shaded, brushy areas and can show up even in well-kept yards

If you’re finding one, there’s a good chance there are more around.
