This one was fun. Mud dauber wasp nest built right on a fire sprinkler — not exactly the best combo. Took care of it without setting off the building’s waterworks. Felt like I was playing Operation — that old school game where you try not to set off the buzzer — but with real stakes, lol.

Mud daubers aren’t aggressive, but their nests can attract spiders and mess with fire suppression systems like this. Safe to say this spot’s clear now.

📢 Now Certified: Healthy Schools Act Compliant

I’m proud to share that I’ve met all requirements under the Healthy Schools Act, including completing the Best Pest Management Practices Around Children certification through the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and Sacramento State.

This certification allows me to legally and safely perform pest control services in:
• Schools
• Daycares
• Childcare facilities
• Other child-centered environments

All services are performed using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) best practices, prioritizing safety, prevention, and minimal pesticide use — especially around children.

During my spiderweb removal services I get real close with a lot of spiders. Here’s some of what I’ve found this summer so far. Lots of brown and black widows going around! These are mainly found in eaves and under patio furniture or other areas that are not frequently disturbed. Spider Web removal is included with every service under my general pest treatment plan.

Just wrapped up reading the 2023 State of the Rodent Control Market provided by Pest Control Technology & Bell Laboratories. In a survey of pest management professionals (bug technicians & owners) on the West Coast:

- 65% saw MORE rodent activity.
- Over 30% noticed activity staying the SAME.
- Only 2% reported a decrease in activity nationwide
- 100% of pest control companies surveyed offer rodent control services.

With California experiencing record rainfall and new strict rodenticide laws now in effect for a few years, Southern California might face its worst rodent activity yet in 2024.

I entered the pest control industry shortly after my transition from the Marine Corps in 2016.
Being the “bug guy” was originally just a job i took on Craigslist because I needed money. As time went on i fell in love with what I did and the role I played in society. I’ve been in multiple roles through the industry. Management, sales, but ultimately every technician’s job starts with a good inspection, to find the root of the infestation.

I became intrigued to discover the biggest infestation to be in the pest control industry itself, and the negative reputation it had gained. I’ve witnessed large corporations prioritizing profits, over quality of service. I’ve witnessed door to door companies recklessly hiring inexperienced & unlicensed technicians. I’ve witnessed unethical decisions such as the distribution of inferior and subpar products (knowing it wasn’t their best work).

Personally, I value ethical standards in business. I have always struggled to work for companies that don’t hold themselves to a high standard.

In observing this infestation, I acquired the best equipment the industry has to offer, dedicated 7 years of my life mastering the latest industry techniques, and also utilized my GI bill for business courses. Blending everything I’ve learned in the industry with my experience from the Marine Corps,
I founded Kilo Sierra Pest Solutions, a veteran-owned and operated company.
I plan to make Kilo Sierra Pest Solutions a leader in environmental stewardship and attention to detail. My vision is to make a new standard for quality of service within the industry. I will be talking more about this in future posts.
I am passionate about this endeavor and am looking forward to sharing this experience with you.
