⚠️ INCREASED RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER TODAY. ⚠️
An enhanced risk of severe weather is in effect today for western Iowa. Storms are expected to develop late this afternoon in Nebraska and South Dakota, moving into western Iowa between 6 PM and 8 PM. The unstable atmosphere promotes severe weather, including supercell thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. Initially, isolated storms could produce strong tornadoes. Overnight, storms may merge into a larger line, increasing the risk of widespread damaging winds and embedded tornadoes, particularly in western and northwestern Iowa.
Timing remains important with this setup:
• Western Iowa: 6PM – 10PM
• Central Iowa: 11PM – 3 AM
• Eastern Iowa: 3 AM – 7 AM
Given that this severe weather event is expected to occur at night in much of Iowa, it's crucial to have several reliable methods for receiving warnings while you sleep.
