Stearns Pools & Spas, Inc. is seeking an EXPERIENCED, mid-tech level, pool person for year-round, full time employment with a 30-year established in-ground swimming pool company servicing the greater SW Houston area, Fort Bend & Brazoria counties. Pay relative to experience, with vacation, life insurance, gas allowance, ez tag, phone allowance & paid holidays:
Maintenance & Repair/ Replacement skills:
o Pool cleaning (skim, brush, vacuum, baskets, etc.)
o In-line Chlorinators
o Timers - setting, trippers, mechanisms
o Pumps / motors (knowledge preferred)
o Filter cleaning (DE & Cartridge)
o Related Light Plumbing
• Pool Chemistry - Testing and Adjusting as necessary
• Pool cleaner repairs
• Draining & Cleaning assistance
• Basic bidding of pool repairs and special cleans
Skills/Qualifications
• Must have at least one year pool repair and maintenance experience
• Have an excellent customer service attitude & willingness to communicate
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a sense of integrity
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Use your own truck for which gas, on company time, will be provided
• Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs
• Must pass a background check
• Be able to work Monday through Friday - outside, rain or shine
• Must be able to speak/communicate in English
• Must be a US citizen or a have a valid work permit

Here are the keys to avoiding freeze damage on your pool.

KEEP THE WATER MOVING
As long as the water is moving at a reasonable velocity through the piping and your pool equipment, it will not freeze.
1. Make sure that all your pumps are freeze protected

The only pump that does not need to be freeze protected is your Booster pump because it receives flow at all times from the main pool pump.

If a pump is not freeze protected, then it should run 24 hours per day until the cold passes.
2. Make sure your lines are all flowing

On a pool spa combo, it is generally not necessary to switch the valves back and forth from pool to spa mode and vice versa. An experienced tech can tell you whether it is needed or not.
3. Visually inspect your pool and its equipment to make sure that water is actually moving.

Sometimes freeze protection devices fail, just like any other thing, so it is a good idea to check that it is working (especially during the first freeze of the season).

KEEP THE WATER LEVEL UP IN YOUR POOL
Pool water levels tend to run low in extremely cold weather. It may just be that nobody is out at the pool to look at it during the winter.
Do whatever it takes to keep the water level up in your pool.

KEEP YOUR POOL MAINTENANCE UP TO DATE
• Keep your pump baskets and skimmers emptied
• Make sure your filter cleans are done on schedule
• Don't put off backwashing
If you do not keep up with these maintenance items, then the flow of water through your pool equipment will be greatly diminished. In a freeze situation, this can lead to freeze damage on your equipment.
