FROM A GARDEN HOSE TO A REAL BUSINESS — THE STORY OF DYNAMIC DETAILING 🖤
Before you see another post from Dynamic Detailing, I want to tell you how this all started.
I didn’t start this business with a shop, a bunch of expensive equipment, or a huge customer base.
I started with a garden hose, a bucket, some soap, a vacuum, and a love for cleaning anything with wheels.
Ever since I was about 8 years old, I was always cleaning something.
Four-wheelers. Bicycles. Random stuff around the house. My family’s cars. My cousins’ cars. My uncles’ cars.
I’d be outside in the backyard with a bucket and a hose just because I genuinely enjoyed making dirty things look clean.
At the time, I never really thought it would turn into anything.
It was just something I liked doing.
Then when I was 13 years old, I decided to take it a little more seriously.
I created the first Dynamic Detailing page and started trying to get actual customers.
At first, I was doing about one car a week.
One car.
One customer.
One opportunity to prove myself.
I was still a kid, working out of my backyard with basic equipment, trying to learn everything I could.
As I got busier, I realized I couldn’t do everything myself forever. I eventually hired someone to start helping me, and that was one of the first moments where I realized this could actually become a real business.
I kept saving money, reinvesting into equipment and products, learning new techniques, and trying to improve every single vehicle I touched.
Eventually, I made a great connection with Holiday Pools & Spas, which gave me an opportunity to have a shop in Duncansville.
That was a huge step for me.
I went from a kid washing cars in my backyard to having an actual place to operate out of.
And that’s also when I started taking mobile detailing seriously.
When I first moved into Holiday Pools, I had a Chevy single-cab pickup truck outfitted as a mobile detailing rig. I was taking my equipment on the road and bringing the detailing business directly to customers.
Eventually, I sold that truck and upgraded to a giant diesel Ford cargo van with a utility bed, which became my mobile detailing rig.
That was another huge step for the business.
But as anyone who owns a business knows, things don’t always go perfectly.
Things slowed down, and eventually I sold the van.
I bought a BMW, had that for a few months, and then eventually another opportunity came along.
I ended up buying a giant lifted F-250 utility-bed work truck from Holiday Pools, which is now my current mobile detailing truck.
It’s crazy looking back at the different vehicles I’ve had just to keep this business moving forward.
Every truck, every upgrade, every change, and every decision was part of figuring out what worked best and continuing to build.
I stayed at the Duncansville shop for close to a year, continued building the business, and eventually got the opportunity to move to Union Avenue, into my dad’s building.
And honestly, that move changed a lot.
It gave Dynamic Detailing a much better place to operate, more room to work, and a better opportunity to keep growing.
Fast forward to today…
I’m 17 years old, turning 18 in April.
And what started as me cleaning four-wheelers and family cars in my backyard has turned into a business where I’m currently doing around 7 vehicles a week.
That’s something I never would’ve imagined when I was 8 years old standing in my backyard with a garden hose.
Another huge part of this journey has been school.
I’ve been doing cyber school since 7th grade, and I’m currently in 11th grade.
That decision has given me the ability to have a schedule that allows me to actually run a business while I’m still in high school.
And something that I’m especially proud of is that this business isn’t just creating an opportunity for me anymore.
Last year, I had a senior in high school do a co-op through Dynamic Detailing during his school year.
He learned the business, learned detailing, worked alongside me, and he still works for me today.
That’s when I realized this had become bigger than just me cleaning cars in my backyard.
I’m building something.
Something that can create jobs.
Something that can give other people experience.
Something that hopefully continues to grow long after I’m out of high school.
And I’m still only 17.
There have definitely been slow days.
There have been frustrating days.
There have been times when things didn’t go the way I wanted them to.
But every time something went wrong, I learned from it and kept going.
I’ve learned that owning a business isn’t just about detailing cars.
It’s answering messages.
It’s marketing.
It’s buying supplies.
It’s fixing equipment.
It’s dealing with slow weeks.
It’s working when you don’t feel like working.
It’s reinvesting money instead of spending it.
It’s learning from your mistakes.
It’s taking criticism.
It’s constantly trying to become better than you were yesterday.
And most importantly, it’s showing up.
Looking back, it’s crazy to think about how far this has come.
8 years old: cleaning four-wheelers and bicycles in the backyard.
13 years old: created the Dynamic Detailing page and started doing about one car a week.
Then: hired help as things started getting busier.
Next: saved up, made connections, and opened a shop in Duncansville.
Then: started building a mobile detailing operation, going from a Chevy single cab, to a diesel Ford cargo van with a utility bed, to eventually the giant lifted F-250 I have today.
Then: moved to Union Avenue and continued building.
Today: 17 years old, still in high school, around 7 vehicles a week, employees, a real shop, a mobile detailing truck, and a business that continues to grow.
And this isn’t me saying I’ve “made it.”
Not even close.
I have so much more I want to accomplish.
I want to keep growing Dynamic Detailing.
I want to keep improving the quality of our work.
I want to create more jobs.
I want to keep investing into the business.
And someday, I want to look back at this post and realize that this was only the beginning.
To every single person who has ever trusted me with their vehicle, shared a post, recommended me to someone, followed the page, left a review, or supported Dynamic Detailing in any way:
THANK YOU.
You might’ve thought you were just getting your car cleaned.
But every customer helped me get one step closer to where I am today.
I started with a bucket and garden hose in my backyard.
I’m still that same kid who loves making dirty things look new.
The only difference is now I’m building something out of it.
