The trucks don't get to take the winter off, so this is when they get extra attention this time of the year!

Fall in the shop means going through everything before the temperature drops. Pumps, hoses, fluids, tires, batteries, heaters. Anything that could quit on a cold morning gets looked at now instead of at 6 a.m. on a jobsite in January.

Most people never think about this part, and that is kind of the point. That's why we can answer the phone in February and actually show up. When someone calls with a backup, the difference between same-day and next week usually comes down to whether the truck starts.

Building your first house means making a hundred decisions you've never made before. What this first-time home builder appreciated the most wasn't the equipment or the price. It was that our team answered the questions.

Rod walked him through it. What the site needed, what order the work happens in, and who else to call for the parts of the build outside our lane. When the final invoice came, it landed under the up-front estimate.

That is how it should work. We've been doing septic and excavation around here since 1968, and a lot of our work is on new builds where the homeowner has never seen any of this before. Ask us anything. We would rather answer twenty questions now than fix something later that got buried wrong.

Meet Bill, one of our pump technicians who's been with Wray's for two years! Before coming to Wray's, Bill spent his career as an over the road truck driver. When the chance came to get off the road and stay closer to home, he took it.

Ask him what he likes most about the job, and it isn't the equipment or the trucks. It's the people. Bill enjoys meeting homeowners and having real conversations with them, and he says the best part is the relief on someone's face when he tells them their system is working again, and they aren't looking at a major expense.

Outside of work, Bill is a hunter and a camper who follows the Lions, plays some golf, and takes the occasional cruise. Most of his time goes to his wife and their three kids, a son and twin daughters.

We asked Bill what advice he'd give homeowners. He kept it simple. Keep grease out of your drains, keep wet wipes out of your toilet, and get your system pumped every three to five years.

A few weeks ago, we showed you what it looks like when we pour our own tanks. This is one of those tanks making it the rest of the way, set right into the ground on a recent job.

Not every septic company pours their own tanks. Wray's does, which means we know exactly what's going in the ground before it ever gets there.

Getting a tank this size positioned just right takes the right equipment and a crew that's done it enough times to make it look easy. Once it's set and connected, it's backfilled, and this becomes another job nobody thinks twice about, which is exactly the point.

Labor Day is for the people who show up early, work through the heat, and get the job done right, no matter what it is.

A tank giving out from old age isn't rare. What happens next is what matters! One of our customers put in a service request online after their septic tank collapsed. By 8am the next morning, we called to take a look. They had a quote within the hour and were scheduled in less than a week.

Our crew showed up first thing and swapped the tank out fast, so they weren't without facilities for long. That's our favorite part of the job. Show up, figure out what's needed, and get it handled without turning it into a bigger disruption than it has to be!
