Hey everyone, I hope everyone is staying safe. I just wanted to post some tips to help you keep healthy.
Firstly, you need to know that in addition to cleaning your homes you need to also disinfect it. The difference is that cleaning is the removal of impurities from surfaces whereas disinfecting is actually killing germs.
For the purpose of this post, I am going to tell you how to disinfect your home. Needless to say, PLEASE CLEAN first.
Put away clutter, remove dust and clean spills off surfaces.
Now there are lots of myths and misinformation about how to disinfect surfaces in order to kill the Covid-19 virus.
You cannot get covid-19 unless you put it into your body. Your hands pick up the virus and transfer it to your mouth, nose, or eyes.
So, before you begin disinfecting you should first identify the most commonly touched places in your homes, for example, light switches, doors k***s (especially front doork***s), tables, the key bowl, refrigerator handles, and remotes. Pay special attention to these places.
Now when you are ready to begin disinfecting get prepared, wear gloves as disinfecting products work by breaking down proteins which is what kills germs, your skin is also made of protein so try your best to protect it. If you are sensitive to smells or have berating problems use an appropriate mask. Open windows and ensure young children are in another room.
If you're using Lysol use according to the manufacture’s recommendations.
For those that are using bleach, you want to use 1/3 cup of bleach to every gallon of clean water or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water.
DO NOT MIX BLEACH WITH OTHER CLEANERS
You can use pine sol or scented “cleaners” after.
DO NOT USE WATER OR BLEACH ON ELECTRICAL ITEMS: Such as remotes, wall sockets or computers.
(You can use water and bleach on a towel to clean appliances like the body of your refrigerator or washing machine. )
Use isopropyl alcohol/rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth or paper towel to clean your electrical items. Remember you don’t need to soak the cloth, just enough to wipe these items clean. Also, unplug your electrical items before disinfecting them.
For screens use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe off dust, mix equal parts of isopropyl alcohol and water. You can add ONE drop of ammonia-free dish detergent to this if you have resistant smudges, mix, then dampen and wipe. Ensure no liquid drips to the edges or you will damage the item. Buff dry with a dry soft lint-free cloth or paper towel. Do Not Use Glass Cleaner on screens or acetone as a substitution for isopropyl alcohol.
Now we are in a pandemic, so ideally you want to wipe heavily used surfaces at least once a day. But you really need to clean at your discretion.
Remember, the virus can only be brought into your home by you, or other individuals. So clean accordingly.
Hope this helps. If you have any questions that are cleaning related ask in the comments.
