Fuel prices have increased in the last two month due to the ongoing Iran war that started on Feb 28. The disruption in the supply of crude oil from the Middle East has triggered a surge in fuel prices, with Petrol station operators in Singapore adjusting the prices of fuel accordingly.

SPMA is working to consolidate members' inputs on the following:

The extent of fuel cost increases (e.g. percentage increase and proportion of operating costs)
Ability to pass on or recover these costs (e.g. contract variations, surcharges)
Duration businesses can sustain current cost pressures
Feasibility of operational adjustments (e.g. route optimisation, fleet electrification, alternative equipment)
The survey on the impact of fuel cost increase can be found here –

https://forms.gle/Q4MmFh7HRw7y4aqn7

Your time and effort in filling out the survey will enable SPMA to gain further insight into the ongoing impact that the fuel crisis is making on the pest management industry. The data collected will be shared with the National Environment Agency (NEA) as part of a collective effort to highlight these operational challenges. SPMA’s goal is to provide the NEA with the necessary insights to explore practical solutions that ensure the long-term stability of the pest management industry during this volatile period.

NEA has requested for SPMA to consolidate members' inputs on: The extent of fuel cost increases (e.g. percentage increase and proportion of operating costs) Ability to pass on or recover these costs (e.g. contract variations, surcharges) Duration businesses can sustain current cost pressures Feasibi...

The Workshop on SS 615:2026 (Code of Practice for the Safe Handling, Transportation and Storage of Pesticides) was successfully held on 12 March 2026 by the Standards Development Organisation at the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SDO@SCIC).

The workshop showcased the revised SS 615:2026, which outlines the requirements for the safe handling, transportation and storage of pesticides, supporting safer operations across the industry.

Key highlights of the workshop:

1. Key differences between the 2016 and 2026 editions
2. Safe handling practices for pesticides, including fumigants

The Singapore Pest Management Association (SPMA) attended the NEA-Industry Scholarship Award Ceremony 2026 as an invited guest, marking the fifth cycle of this initiative by the National Environment Agency (NEA). The ceremony recognised 11 scholars and their sponsoring organisations, representing the largest cohort since the scholarship’s inception in 2020.

The NEA-Industry Scholarship supports students from local polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education who are pursuing careers in the Environmental Services (ES) sector. The programme provides financial support during their studies and structured career pathways upon graduation, in roles such as operations, engineering, and data-related functions within participating companies.

The event highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen workforce capabilities and attract new entrants into the ES industry. It also reflected the sector’s continued development in areas such as technology adoption, productivity improvement, and service standards.

SPMA recognises the importance of such initiatives in supporting industry transformation and building a sustainable talent pipeline. Engagement between industry stakeholders, training institutions, and government agencies remains essential to ensure the sector is equipped to meet future operational and public health needs

SPMA appreciates the opportunity to participate in this event and supports continued collaboration across the industry.

SPMA representatives joined fellow stakeholders at the Inter-Agency Dengue Task Force (IADTF) luncheon for a meaningful exchange on Singapore’s dengue outlook and the adoption of Singapore Standard SS 721 — Code of Practice for the Performance of Pest Management Services. The lunch, which took place on 5 February, was attended by SPMA council members Ms Jo Lynn Teh, Mr Heng Yiwei, and Ms Joleen Goh.

Updates shared highlighted encouraging progress in 2025, including significantly fewer dengue cases, sustained suppression of the Aedes aegypti population, and the continued expansion of Project Wolbachia.

Participants also emphasised the need for continued vigilance due to global vector-borne disease risks and persistent breeding habitats, particularly in construction environments.

The discussion on SS 721 addressed common operational challenges such as inconsistent service standards, unclear roles between service buyers and providers, and the need for practical implementation guidance. Adoption of the standard was seen as a pathway to more consistent, prevention-focused pest management and stronger accountability across the industry.

SPMA’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and safeguarding public health.
