If the Government of Pakistan mobilizes every single helicopter and airplane at its disposal it will still not be possible for them to deal with this calamity. Balochistan is completely cut off from Pakistan with even the phone lines and internet down today. The last railway link we had with the province also broke when a British Raj era bridge washed away yesterday. Some experts are saying that parts of Southern Punjab and Balochistan have been restored to the pre-1947 position - a fact that wouldn't be surprising.

The government estimates that it requires a little under PKR 100 billion for the relief efforts. Even if 10 percent Pakistanis (20 million people) contribute 5,000 each, we should be able to reach the figure of Rs 100 billion for the initial relief efforts. The rebuilding will cost us billions of dollars and it will take years, may be even decades, to reach the eventual goals.

We must all rise up to the occasion. We must spread the message. We must sacrifice our luxuries. Whether it is giving up on eating out, going out for movies, shopping for clothes etc that money will be better spent on helping the needy. Remember any wealth we have is not ours. It is a loan to us from Allah and we will be accountable for it on the day of judgement.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has allocated code 9999 to allow mobile subscribers to donate to Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund 2022. Users can type “fund” and send to 9999 and donate Rs.10
