In August 2018, a group of Pakistani entrepreneurs flying back from Europe wondered why laundry services in Pakistan could not match the professionalism, convenience and value offered by launderettes abroad operated by brands such as American Eagle, Hermés and others. They were especially perturbed by how Pakistan’s laundry market offers little to its customers, with a choice between either a traditional dhobi who provides a rather basic quality of service or extremely expensive hotel laundry, to say nothing of the inconvenience of accessing the latter.
In these modern times, millennials invest a large part of their income buying quality clothing and investing in designer garments. Having made this investment, it is heart-breaking to have a favourite garment ruined by the laundry. This is a tale of woe, shared by almost everyone.
Keen to convert this challenge into an opportunity, the investors decided to upgrade the awareness and status of laundry in the country. They decided it was time Pakistan changed its traditional handling of laundry and brought it up to international standards. After all, the Pakistani customer is as fashion-conscious as any customer abroad and deserves this facility.
In a changing Pakistan, this change was inevitable.
